Low-pressure die casting and gravity casting differ in how metal is delivered into the mold. In a typical low-pressure arrangement, controlled pressure moves metal from a holding furnace through a feed tube. Gravity filling uses the metal head and pouring arrangement. The practical choice depends on the component and production system, not on the process name alone.

Trace the metal path through the proposed mold

Ask the supplier to explain how the cavity fills and how the feed arrangement supports the casting as it solidifies. The location of critical sections and the ability to control filling are more useful discussion points than a generic claim of smooth flow.

Different component shapes may suit different mold and furnace arrangements. The proposed route should account for cores, passages and removal of the casting, rather than considering filling as an isolated operation.

Examine what happens after the cavity is full

Solidification and feeding remain central to internal quality. A controlled filling method does not eliminate the need to design the thermal sequence and evaluate heavy sections. Mold temperature and repeat-cycle conditions also need to be managed by the foundry.

For a buyer, this translates into a request for a coherent manufacturing and inspection proposal. It is more informative than asking for a universal pressure setting or cycle time that cannot represent every alloy and geometry.

Keep the finished requirement consistent

Compare both routes against the same material condition, dimensional requirements and examination criteria. If one proposal includes heat treatment or machining and the other does not, resolve that difference before comparing prices.

A component with pressure-tightness requirements should also have a defined test and acceptance plan. Clarify when testing occurs in relation to machining and finishing so the results correspond to the condition being supplied.

Let repeat demand justify the production arrangement

The equipment and tooling commitment should fit the forecast and release schedule. A process that is attractive for an established programme may be less suitable while geometry is still changing. Ask how revisions and sample approval affect the quoted timing.
